“I’m inspired by movies, video games and fantasy. The Pond was inspired by the game Grounded. My newest build for Spark, This Mortal Coil, was inspired by the movie, What Dreams May Come.”

Ravenstarr, the creator of The Pond and This Mortal Coil, talks about the inspirations behind her artistic and creative builds in this months Creator Spotlight- brought to you by The Nature Collective.

Q: How long have you been in Second Life?
A: 11 years….Omg, has it been 11 years??

Q: What brought you to Second Life?
A: My medical school had us present research posters inworld on an island the school owned. I became curious of this new world and have been here ever since.

Q: What inspired you to create your nature space?
A: I’m inspired by movies, video games and fantasy. The Pond was inspired by the game Grounded. My newest build for Spark, This Mortal Coil, was inspired by the movie, What Dreams May Come.

Q: What’s your creative process like: Do you have everything all planned out or do you have a general idea and improvise along the way?
A: I usually start with a general idea and wing it. The clearer my vision, the faster the build goes.

Q: How long did it take you to create your nature space?
A: It varies greatly depending on the sim. The Pond took 8 days. The Spark build has taken over a month.

Q: What are some of your favorite places to visit in SL?
A: There are so many creative spaces in SL. I enjoy visiting places that push the imagination. My most favorite place still was an art installation called Petrovsky Flux. It’s not around anymore, unfortunately. But you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAoSQGd1OEU

Q: What do you do in your spare time outside of SL?
A: I like to spend time with my two kiddos, who are too grown up. I have a dog named Moenie (Moony) and a cat named Raven (of course) that I spoil now.

Q: What are some of your favorite nature-related places you’ve visited in real life?
A: Thousand Islands, NY is my favorite place in the world.

Q: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
A: See above.

Now onto the fun stuff!

Q: Favorite drink?
A: I drink too much coffee (is there really such a thing?) and mint tea.

Q: Favorite food?
A: I love good burger with blue cheese. Oh, and rum raisin ice cream.

Q: Books or TV?
A: Both. Usually at the same time. While also browsing Pinterest on my phone and filling up my next vision board for a new sim build.

Q: If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
A: My cat. She is a spoiled brat.
